About Cannabinoid

Cannabinoids are naturally occurring chemicals found in the cannabis plant.

Cannabinoids interact with the body's endocannabinoid system receptors and have various physiological effects. The two most well-known cannabinoids are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol).

THC is primarily responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis and is known to cause the "high" feeling. On the other hand, CBD does not produce the same psychoactive effects but has shown potential therapeutic effects.

Now, let's understand how cannabinoids are absorbed into the body.

The administration routes of cannabinoids can be divided into four categories: inhalation, sublingual, oral ingestion, and topical absorption. The most common method of cannabinoid use is smoking cannabis and vaporizing cannabinoids for inhalation. When cannabinoids enter the lungs, they are rapidly absorbed and quickly eliminated from the body.

The sublingual route involves placing oils or other cannabinoid-containing substances under the tongue for direct absorption into the bloodstream. Sublingual absorption is known to provide faster onset of effects and longer-lasting effects.

Oral ingestion involves consuming edible cannabinoids, but it may take longer for the effects to kick in. Topical absorption involves using creams, lotions, sprays, etc., for localized cannabinoid absorption and is commonly used for treating conditions such as muscle pain or skin disorders.

Next to THC, the well-known cannabinoid CBD is recognized for its potential in treating anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, arthritis, and addiction.

Other cannabinoids like CBG (cannabigerol), CBN (cannabinol), CBC (cannabichromene), among others, also have unique properties and may contribute to the overall effects of cannabis. Research on cannabinoids is ongoing, exploring their potential in pain relief, inflammation suppression, management of neurological disorders, and more. The diverse range of cannabinoids found in cannabis brings exciting possibilities for natural therapies and personalized medicine approaches.
